SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Almost every parade has a Grand Marshal in front, leading the march. This year, for Sioux Falls 32nd Parade of Lights, Alex Peterson is the Junior Grand Marshal. When he's not in a parade, the 6th grader keeps himself busy with extracurriculars. SFPD: 30-year-old arrested for burglary, stalking "I play baseball and golf. I am in band, play percussion, also in a drumline," 2024 Junior Grand Marshal, Alex Peterson said. But amidst his busy life, he still finds time to volunteer in the city. "I volunteer. I pass out the buckets for donations that go toward the concerts and making everything as great as it can be," Alex said. Something he does with his family. "We do Levitt together. Like we go pass the buckets around together and I like to try and get more money in my bucket than him," Alex's sister, Maddie Peterson said. Alex received the title of Junior Grand Marshal because of his passion for Sioux Falls. Downtown Sioux Falls says he 'embodies the heart and soul of the community.' "I've never been told that, but that's a really big compliment. I feel like it's true. I guess I do love my city. I love our city. And it's a great place to live," Alex said. While his family is proud, there's also another emotion one of them feels. "I was excited for him, but I was also kind of mad because he got the center of attention," Maddie said. Alex will be in one of the 3 honorary cars at the front of the parade, and will get to judge which float has the best lights.
