NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officials with the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office announced on Friday that one person has been arrested and two more are wanted following the conclusion of a financial review that found alleged misconduct from former employees.
According to the OPSO, the former employees are suspected of separate schemes to defraud the sheriff's office.

The man, who was fired before being arrested, has been identified as Kenneth Aaron Lawson. He is accused of creating a fake business called "Williams James Assoc. LLC," to "misappropriate more than $75,000 in federal grant funds for personal use."

Lawson was arrested on Nov. 29 and has been booked into the Orleans Justice Center on felony charges that include theft, bank fraud, government benefits fraud and public contract fraud.
The OPSO is reportedly also investigating a separate instance that involves the misappropriation of over $90,000 from the OPSO Inmate Trust Fund. It's believed that the scheme was achieved by "falsifying journal entries and issuing unauthorized check disbursements to conceal cash discrepancies in former resident inmate accounts."
The individuals involved in the second incident face felony charges that include theft more than $25,000, monetary instrument abuse, obstruction of justice, injuring and filing false public records, malfeasance in office and public contract fraud.

This investigation is reportedly part of the OPSO making efforts to strengthen its financial oversight. Steps that have been made in this effort include the implementation of a cashless system, partnership with banking institutions, updated authorization and verification procedures, segregation of employee duties and plans for improved automation through technology.
The OPSO's Commercial Crime Insurance will reportedly also reimburse any former jail residents who were impacted by the financial crimes.
Findings from the ongoing investigations will be shared with the public.
