IMPD reports uptick in crashes as cold temperatures, snow flurries cause roads to get slippery

INDIANAPOLIS — Cold temperatures and snow flurries caused instigated slippery road conditions in central Indiana on Friday.
According to a post on X, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to an increased number of crashes on local roadways on Friday afternoon and evening. Police reported that roads are very slippery because of ice buildup.
The department is encouraging motorists to head to their desired destinations early and prepare for delays that crashes and icy roads might cause.
The Indiana Department of Transportation's traffic map indicated that snow plows have been deployed on area interstates. INDOT cameras captured a few views of the snow and ice buildup on Friday night:
High temperatures only stretched into the upper 20s and low 30s on Friday. As of 5:23 p.m., FOX59 and CBS4's weather team reported that it was just 24 degrees outside, and temperatures may not rise above freezing (32 degrees) until the start of the work week.
