GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WFRV) - A family in Grand Chute was awakened by smoke detectors after a garage fire Friday morning. According to a release, the fire occurred in the 1200 block of Cottonwood Court, where firefighters responded to a report of a garage fire attached to a single-family home shortly before 6 a.m. Wisconsin man sentenced to 59 years in prison for sexual assault of minors The Grand Chute Police Department was the first to arrive and reported that all household members and the family pet had safely evacuated. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the attached garage and the roof of the home. Crews entered the garage by cutting and removing the garage door. The fire was eventually extinguished and contained to the garage, not spreading to other parts of the house. GBPD responds to numerous calls during Packers Thanksgiving matchup vs. Miami, multiple ejections & arrests The occupants of the home were asleep at the time of the fire and were alerted by their smoke alarms. The Grand Chute Fire Department is reminding residents that fires spread quickly in today's homes and stresses the importance of having working smoke alarms and an escape plan. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is not considered suspicious. Damage estimates were not available at the time of the release.
