Winterlike weekend on the way
Nov 29, 2024
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Black Friday! It’s a COLD one out there today ahead of a winter-like weekend weather pattern. This is ahead of frigid morning temperatures on the way Monday into Tuesday mornings next week.
Cold air in place Friday into Saturday
Heading Black Friday shopping? You will need the winter jacket as temperatures will only reach the mid-30s Friday afternoon after starting the day in the upper 20s. Our coldest night of the season so far is expected overnight Friday into early Saturday morning. Many areas will be waking up well into the low 20s, with a few upper teens possible as well. If you’re heading to Kroger Field to tailgate for the Governor’s Cup on Saturday, make sure you dress for the cold temperatures! Morning temperatures will be in the 20s and the wind chill will be making it feel like the upper teens at times. For the game itself, temps will struggle to get out of the mid-30s with partly cloudy skies.
Snow shower chance Saturday evening
An Alberta Clipper will be sweeping through the area late Saturday into early Sunday. This will bring a round of snow showers that may result in light accumulation across the region. Don’t expect heavy snow from this, but the timing of this chance is trending earlier and earlier. This could mean snow showers for your Saturday evening. Because temperatures will be in the 20s late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, slick spots will be possible on the less traveled roadways.
Arctic air Sunday into early next week
Behind that Alberta Clipper, arctic air will be in place Sunday afternoon and will last into early next week. Widespread morning temperatures in the teens will be likely Monday, while a few single digit lows in areas with a light snow on the ground will be possible. The wind chill Monday morning will be in the the low teens and single digits in spots. Prepare for a January or February type of shot of arctic air!
