Family of eight displaced on Thanksgiving after overnight fire in Charlotte, fire department says

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) - A family of eight has been displaced on Thanksgiving after an overnight fire at an east Charlotte residence broke out, leaving the family displaced, the Charlotte Fire Department announced Thursday.
Crews responded to the incident around 1:12 a.m. in the overnight hours of Thanksgiving morning at a home near 6500 Woodfield Drive. Smoke was showing on arrival and 30 firefighters were able to control the fire within 20 minutes, CFD said.
An initial investigation stated that the fire originated in an exterior trash can and spread up a wooden fence and into the attic space of the residence.
No injuries were reported, however, a family of eight including two children have been displaced. American Red Cross was on scene assisting.
About $63,000 in damages were estimated.
