BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- A study shows which states in the country are the most and least interested in home births. Birth Injury Lawyers Group analyzed the number of searches for multiple related search terms. The ranking was determined by the number of searches per 100,000 people.
Alaska was named the state most interested in home births with 10.34 searches per 100,000 people. According to the study, the state has 76 searches per month on average. The most searched terms were "home birth with midwife," "at home birth" and "home birth midwife near me."
"The results reveal that Alaska has the most interest in home births. This is also reflected in the state's rate of home births, which in 2022 stood at 2.7% according to Statista, the ninth highest rate in the country," said Bob Goldwater, a spokesperson for Birth Injury Lawyers Group.
Data found that Vermont is the second most interested, with 8.88 searches per 100,000 people. Wyoming followed behind at No. 3 with 8.42 searches per 100,000 people.
