FORECAST: Coldest air arrives across the DMV
Nov 29, 2024
Today looks dry for everyone except those living out near the Allegany Front region, where another round of snow will develop during the day before diminishing Friday night. We have another windy day in store for the DMV, as winds gusting upwards of 30 mph across much of the region. Even with sunshine, daytime highs will only reach the upper 20s in the mountains and lower to middle 40s elsewhere. Temperatures will quickly drop Friday night as the coldest airmass to this point. Forecasted overnight lows will be in the 20s for most of the area and into the teens in the mountains. Gusty conditions are expected to continue Friday night, resulting in feels-like temperatures in the teens by Saturday morning in and around the Beltway, with the single digits in the mountains.
To start the weekend, it will continue to be dry, breezy, and cold as high pressure builds across the area and the thermometer struggles to reach the upper 30s to low 40s. Winds should range between 10 to 15 mph, occasionally gusting to 20 to 25 mph, resulting in feels-like temps in the 20s to low 30s, even in the sunny afternoon. A series of atmospheric disturbances will help bring more snow showers to the mountains on Sunday and next week while keeping the frigid cold air mass in our backyard. Each passing afternoon, high temperatures should top out in the 40s, with overnight lows at or below freezing.
