OAKHURST, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man is dead after officials say his vehicle collided with a tree at approximately 55 mph early Thursday morning.
According to officials with the California Highway Patrol in Oakhurst, around 1:40 a.m. a man was heading northbound in a Subaru on State Route 49, south of Harmony lane.
Officials say for unknown reasons, the male driver allowed his vehicle to veer to the left and collide with a tree. The vehicle then caught fire and quickly became fully engulfed with the driver inside.
The driver sustained fatal injuries, officials say. No other vehicles or parties were determined to be a factor.
While officials say alcohol appears to be a factor in this crash, the exact cause is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
