PHOTOS: Hamilton West at Steinert Thanksgiving football game HAMILTON TWP. — The seniors on the Steinert High football team were not part of a squad that posted a winning record in any of the last three seasons, but they sure will have very fond memories of their Thanksgiving Day games against rival Hamilton. For the third straight year, Steinert defeated Hamilton on Thursday, this time in thoroughly dominating fashion by the score of 38-0 in the 66th game between these teams in a series that dates back to 1959. Although Hamilton still leads the series 37-28-1, it's been all Steinert of late as the Spartans shut out Hamilton for the third straight year and ended a solid season with a 5-6 record. That mark is not bad at all when you consider three of those losses were to strong Shore Conference teams that have a combined record of 23-9. With this victory and an earlier win over Nottingham, for the first time since 2015 Steinert was also the outright winner of the Joe Logue trophy. This award is named after a former Trentonian sports editor and goes to the team that does the best of the three Hamilton Township schools in games against each other. What Steinert also did was post its largest margin of victory ever against the Hornets. Furthermore, Thursday's game marked the first time any team had posted three shutouts in a row in the history of the series. In the first half, Steinert exploded for 24 points and averaged over 10 yards per carry while Hamilton (2-8) could not pick up a single first down and had six total yards. Leading the way was Isaac Pate, who ran wild for 170 yards on 16 carries in the first half. Two of those runs went for long touchdowns as Pate scored on runs of 47 and 69 yards. It was the second straight year Pate had a big game against the Hornets after rushing for over 100 yards and scoring on a 77-run a year ago. "I was excited for this game,'' said Pate, who finished with 208 rushing yards and was named his team's Most Valuable Player in this game. "It was the last game our seniors would play on this field and we wanted them to go out with a bang.'' And what of an offensive line that seemed to open wider and wider holes as the game progressed? "I was able to do this because of my teammates,'' he agreed. "It was 11 people working together on the field.'' The second half was just more of the same.  A Steinert defense that got interceptions from Makai Blackstone and Jon Weaver, continued to completely shut down the Hamilton offense. The Hornets finished with less than 30 rushing yards and their passing game was equally unproductive. The fact Steinert was completely confident in its defense was reflected in the way it repeatedly elected to go for an onside kick and went for it in fourth-down situations in which a team would normally punt. As for Steinert's offense, it continued to churn along and got a 4-yard touchdown run by Tyler Carocci and a 23-yard touchdown reception by Weaver. His touchdown was a particularly satisfying moment for Weaver, whose earlier pick six on an  interception had been wiped out by a penalty. As for Carocci, he got in on the scoring fun despite the fact he's actually actually a lineman. Giglio also had a nice game by throwing the two TD passes and going over 100 yards when you combine his passing and rushing yardage. Greg Brower contributed as well with some hard running when Isaac Pate was out of the game. Although its final record might not reflect it, Steinert did have a pretty good team this year.
