PIEDMONT, Calif. (KRON) -- It’s a somber Thanksgiving in Piedmont as the community mourns three young residents who lost their lives Wednesday in a Tesla Cybertruck crash. On Thursday, at the annual Piedmont Turkey Trot, residents are gathering to honor their lives. The deadly crash happened Wednesday at around 3 a.m. in Piedmont near the corners of Sea View Avenue and Hampton Road next to Crocker Park. The Cybertruck jumped a curb, crashed into a tree and burst into flames, according to officials. 3 dead after fiery Cybertruck crash in Piedmont Three people inside died, and one person was pulled from the wreckage by someone who had been driving behind the Cybertruck. The surviving victim is in the hospital with critical injuries. Friends told KRON4 that the survivor, a young man, underwent surgery and is suffering from severe burns. By noon Wednesday, word had spread and loved ones began leaving flowers at the crash site. Their former middle school teacher, Sandy Martin, was in tears as she told reporters, “No matter the whys, it’s just so horrible. They all have wonderful families. They were incredible kids. (Photo: Michael Thomas) On Thursday, the city of Piedmont is hosting its annual Turkey Trot, where they plan to memorialize the group and will allow people to take an alternative route to leave flowers at the crash site, followed by emotional support for this mourning community. The 23rd Annual Piedmont Turkey Trot begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Exedra near the blue vase, located at Highland and Magnolia avenues. Mayor Jen Cavenaugh will give brief memorial remarks to open the event and lead the community in a moment of silence. Speed was a contributing factor in the crash, according to Piedmont Police Chief Jeremy Bowers. Authorities have not ruled out whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
