COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Nearly three years after losing part of his leg in a motorcycle crash, a Georgia man has been awarded millions of dollars in a lawsuit against the company involved, according to Attorney Christopher Breault.
Since the crash, Jonathon Wright has been in a legal battle with GFL Environmental Services. That battle came to an end on Tuesday when, after a two-week-long trial, the jury awarded Wright $42 million.
Breault says his plaintiff is an experienced motorcyclist who was hit by a garbage truck at an intersection in Columbus.
"As he came around the corner of Warm Springs Road and Miller Road, a garbage truck owned by a Canadian company, GFL Environmental Services, USA, Inc. pulled out in front of him," Breault shared in a social media post. "About 1 second before impact, he braked and turned to the right."
The left side of Wright's body absorbed the impact, resulting in the amputation of his lower left leg, as well as his left arm being permanently locked into place. Wright also lost vision in his left eye, suffered a traumatic brain injury, and had multiple bones break.
Video footage and other evidence were presented to the jury throughout the trial.
Breault thanked his co-counsel, Christopher Newbern and Shevon Thomas II, for their work in this case.
