BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Two dogs have been adopted after the home where they previously lived was the site of a suspected murder-suicide. Aqua, 12, and Toby, 10, had been in a shelter since the Oct. 29 shooting on Cresson Court in south Bakersfield that killed two men. The dogs were scheduled to be put down -- but someone decided to give them a new home. Daniel Litterell of Kern County Animal Services said, "The gentleman walked through the shelter, knew exactly where he was going. He wanted to see Aqua and Toby and he met the dogs. Did a meet and greet with them and got along just fine and he wanted to make sure they made it out of the shelter safely, and that's exactly what he did." Litterell on Tuesday posted a message on Facebook saying the dogs were adopted exactly four weeks after they were seized by the county. "We were, obviously, very excited," said Litterell. "A lot of people were invested in this story and so we always want to highlight happy endings whenever we can and that was definitely one to highlight." He added, "It makes it really special just before Thanksgiving for those two dogs to finally get back in a home where they belong."
