FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Thanksgiving is almost here, and people were standing in long lines Wednesday morning hoping to obtain some delicious Thanksgiving staples in two popular locations in Fresno. Residents lined up at the Marie Callender's location in Fresno for the restaurant's pie sale. Deborah Taylor, one of the shoppers, was excited to get a berry pie for her family after they requested it for Thanksgiving this year. She says Marie Callender's was the only place she knew she would get a berry pie her family would like. "This is special. Everybody requested the berry, and this was the only place I knew I could get a berry pie that they would like. Pumpkin pie? I buy at the store," she said. Marie Callender's was not the only place looking at long lines of people excitedly waiting to purchase the last additions to their Thanksgiving dinner this year; people also lined up at the HoneyBaked Ham restaurant in Fresno to get their honey-baked ham. Some had to preorder the ham ahead of the high demand, with people driving from out of town to get a hold of the delicious hams— people like Vicki Matthews, who drove two hours from Springfield to Fresno to pick up her honey-baked ham. Matthews adds the baked ham was worth the drive. "We are having prime rib and ham because the family just doesn't like turkey," she said. "They are juicy and very tasty. We like to eat it cold." Matthews' family is not the only one who prefers to eat baked ham instead of turkey for Thanksgiving. Deborah Ballesteros says baked ham instead of turkey has been a family tradition and expects to enjoy it for days after Thanksgiving. "It's delicious. Heat it up. The glaze on the top is outstanding and then, of course, like anything else, you are going to have it for the next... we are going to have it for the, probably, the next five days," she said. Residents agreed the long lines and the commute to these stores were worth it to have a chance to share the delicious items at Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.
