(KRON) -- The Pleasanton Police Department will be assigning additional officers to patrol in the area of a new Costco store that opened the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The opening drew large crowds with many shoppers even attempting to camp out outside the store for days in advance.
"We understand the excitement surrounding Costco's grand opening here in Pleasanton, and we appreciate your enthusiasm." Pleasanton PD said in a social media post. "However, as we welcome this new business to our community, we kindly ask for your patience and cooperation."
Pleasanton PD is asking that shoppers at the new Costco allow extra time for parking and avoid parking in red zones near Commerce Circle to help "ensure a smooth experience for everyone, including neighboring businesses."
Bay Area Frost Advisory issued for Thanksgiving morning
Extra police patrols will be deployed in the area through the weekend.
"Please try to remain courteous to others and use your horn only when necessary," police said. "With the holiday season upon us, we want everyone to have a safe and pleasant shopping experience."
The line at the new Pleasanton Costco held steady for more than 24 hours with customers camping outside eagerly to secure high-end alcohol and other items. The new Pleasanton Costco location is now open on Johnson Drive near the Stoneridge Shopping Center. This is the third Costco in the Tri Valley Area.
