CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - According to the Turkey Producer 'Butterball', nearly 90% of people in the U.S. plan to serve turkey this Thanksgiving, but CDC investigators claim outbreaks of food poisoning tend to rise around this time of year. Experts say to avoid eating tainted, undercooked turkey, and make sure it reaches a cooked temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit before it's served. The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Services provides a Turkey Thawing Calculator and Turkey Cooking Calculator on its website to help home chefs gauge how long their turkey needs to cook.
