ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The holiday season is officially upon us, and that means holiday markets are going to start popping up across the state. One new market is looking to bring in the season and is warning vendors about scammers. As Winrock Town Center continues to evolve from building projects to farmer's markets, they've now set their eyes on the holidays. "We wanted to create a holiday event to kick off the festivities and kinda support small business, so we're kicking it off on Small Business Saturday," said event curator, David Stroud. "We're hoping with the holiday market it kind of brings back that nostalgic feeling of families coming to Winrock for the holidays," said Stroud. "We have about 80 local makers and artisans that will be here set up and selling all of their amazing goods that they've made." Stroud said working with dozens of vendors and coordinators, an issue has popped up: scammers. "We were notified by a couple potential vendors that people were reaching out to them to kinda scam them and say that they were the curator for the event and for them to pay them via PayPal or whatever the situation may be," said Stroud. Thankfully, those vendors reached out to Stroud before they lost their money. "I was disappointed that I had to post something to say hey watch out with scammers because especially for the holiday season you don't really want with these small businesses you know they put a lot of time and their own money into curating their goods," said Stroud. Despite the concerns, they're looking forward to Saturday. "There's always nerves being our first year but I think we can feel the excitement and we have a great spot with Winrock here," said Stroud. Stroud wants to remind small businesses that messages will only come from Winrock Town Center and Goodman Realty. A full list of Winrock's scheduled events can be found on their website.
