ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For the first time since 2016, the Lobo football team is playing a "meaningful" game in late November. Even though every game on the schedule counts the same in the record book, New Mexico's upcoming game in Hawaii on Saturday holds a little extra value.
With a win over the Rainbow Warriors, UNM would become bowl eligible. It would be the first time the team has reached that mark in eight years.
UNM is coming off its first ranked win since 2003 and a bye week and is now faced with long travel and distractions.
"History says destination games are challenging," said UNM head coach Bronco Mendenhall. "Most of those experiences through postseason, someone is sent home because they are recreating."
Saturday's game will kickoff at 9 p.m. MT.
