Thanksgiving rain ushers in cooler temperatures across the northern Gulf Coast
Nov 27, 2024
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A cold front moving through the area late tonight into Thanksgiving Day will bring showers, a slight chance of thunderstorms, and breezy conditions.
Rain and breezy conditions are expected to last just a few hours in most locations as the front moves through quickly. A few lingering showers could follow, especially along the southeast Louisiana coast and parts of coastal Mississippi, but severe weather is not expected. Temperatures will begin to drop behind the front, with afternoon highs falling into the mid-60s.
By Friday morning, skies will clear, and much cooler air will settle in. Temperatures will struggle to reach the upper 50s during the day, and gusty north winds will make it feel even cooler. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the mid-30s in northern areas, with near-freezing temperatures possible. Freeze warnings may be issued for some locations if these conditions develop.
The chilly, dry weather will stick around through the weekend, with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the 40s closer to the coast. By early next week, temperatures will begin to moderate slightly, with daytime highs climbing into the 60s under mostly sunny skies.
