Tua Tagovailoa eager to play in prime time on Thanksgiving
Nov 27, 2024
As the twelfth season of Cover2: Hawaii High School Football Weekly comes to a close on Thursday Night with a one-hour episode start at 9:00 pm on KHON2, Saint Louis School graduate Tua Tagovailoa, the winner of the 2015 Cover2 Kaulukukui Award and 2016 Mariota Award, will lead the Miami Dolphins under the national spotlight this Thanksgiving.
Miami is set to face the Green Bay Packers in prime time at the historic Lambeau Field, offering a marquee matchup for the holiday.
Despite his $212 million contract and years of success, Tagovailoa remains grounded, reflecting on his journey from the islands to the NFL, acknowledging that he still embraces experiences as he did as a kid from Ewa beach.

“One hundred percent,” said Tagovailoa when asked about the significance of playing in the Thanksgiving Prime Time game. “I think this is an awesome opportunity—being able to play Thursday Night Football, prime time, on Thanksgiving. It just takes me back to growing up in Hawai’i. The prime time games were a little earlier in Hawai’i, but it’s sort of the same deal. That’s the only game on, and whether you liked the teams or not, you just sit down, eat, spend time with family, and watch. Then sometimes you go outside and pretend to be some of the players.
“For me, and I feel like for a lot of the guys, we cherish this opportunity to go over there to Lambeau, to play at such a historic field. It’s just a blessing. It really is.”
Since returning from injured reserve five weeks ago, Tagovailoa has been electric, leading Miami to three wins while completing 76% of his passes with 11 touchdowns and only one interception.
Kickoff between the Dolphins and Packers is set for Thursday at 3:20 p.m. HST, with the game televised on NBC.
The Cover2 season finale which includes the Cover2 Awards show will air at 9:00 pm on KHON2.
