HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Two employees of the Hawaii County Department of Public Works have been arrested and charged with theft of gasoline from a county facility. Leopoldino, 39, both of Hilo, were arrested on Monday afternoon, November 25, 2024, and charged with misdemeanor theft. Ho faces two counts of third-degree theft, with bail set at $2,000. Leopoldino was charged with one count of third-degree theft, with bail set at $1,000. Both individuals posted bail later that evening and are scheduled to appear in Hilo District Court on December 24, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. The arrests followed an investigation into two separate incidents involving the use of a Hawai’i County-owned vehicle at the Hilo Police Station’s fuel pumps. HFD offers safety tips ahead of Thanksgiving cooking On Saturday, November 23, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Ho was seen fueling a private vehicle owned by Leopoldino using county fuel. The following day, on November 24, Ho was again seen filling a privately owned vehicle with fuel at the same location, this time accompanied by a family member who subsequently fueled another private vehicle. Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigation Section arrested both suspects on Monday afternoon while they were on duty. The investigation is ongoing, with the Hawaii County Department of Public Works also conducting an internal review.
