(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — Leaders in Cañon City are planning to meet with the Cañon City Area Recreation District to discuss the next steps to move ahead with a voter-approved public pool, that did not get voter approval for funding. Voters approved ballot measure 2A, a 0.3% sales tax to make payments towards financing the pool, and ballot measure 6B, the debt issuance to build the pool. However, voters did not approve ballot measure 6A, the mill levy to operate the pool. The recreation district said it might start collecting taxes to build the pool in January, then try to have voters approve another mill levy tax next year to operate the pool. Officials said the mill levy tax might cost less than the previous one that was disapproved by voters.
