ROCK HILL, S.C. — A church in Rock Hill is giving families a reason to be thankful this holiday. Illumine Church is giving away more than 6,000 turkeys on Thanksgiving Day. Volunteers started cooking Sunday and wrapped up Wednesday. Church staff plan to serve thousands of meals starting at 8 a.m. and will continue until all of the food is gone. Organizers say this is the 58th year of giving away food to those in need. “The value is more than you can calculate. The individuals that are suffering are not just as we would say on the low end of the scale. We’re feeding people who had $100,000 homes last year,” Dr. Ronal King said. Meals will include Thanksgiving favorites like turkey, green beans, candied yams, pumpkin pie and more according to one organizer. King said meals will also be delivered around Mecklenburg, York, Lancaster, and Chester Counties for those who cannot travel. Anyone who would like a meal, but cannot make the trip to Rock Hill, can call volunteers at 803-389-2939 to request a delivery. Organizers said more than 800 turkeys were also sent to victims of Hurricane Helene in the Asheville area. Illumine Church can be found at 1689 Springsteen Road in Rock Hill. Organizers say they are still accepting volunteers.
