Remembering Sean Taylor 17 years after his death
Nov 27, 2024
ASHBURN, Va (DC News Now)—Seventeen years after his death, Washington legend Sean Taylor still inspires players and fans.
"I used to watch his highlights," said quarterback Jayden Daniels. "The impact that he made on the field with his electrifying playing, hits, and making plays on the ball. So, I mean, it's awesome to have his remembrance here."
Taylor, who played for Washington from 2004 to 2007, was shot and killed in a home invasion on Nov. 27, 2007. He was one of the best safeties in the NFL when he played for Washington, going to two Pro Bowls and making a second-team All-Pro.
Current head coach Dan Quinn wasn't with the team during Taylor's career, but he says his influence was felt.
"Presence, I think is one of the first things you think about," said Quinn. "What a defender can be and look like and the impact that a ballplayer can make on a team, and the energy that they can provide."

Another former Washington player, Brian Mitchell, never played with Taylor but saw the love he gave the franchise and fans.
"You think about the moments he gave us, you think about the legacy he left," said Mitchell. He also mentioned Taylor's influence on his own family.
"His daughter, she's doing great." Mitchell was excited to say. "You know that your dad, he was out there trying to make sure you had the opportunity to do what you want to do. So it has to be a great feeling for her, I'm sure."
In August, the Commanders announced that they would erect a new statue in Taylor's honor.
