ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Our Wednesday Primetime 585 Shining Star puts the spotlight on Jamie Kotalik, a junior at Pittsford Sutherland High School! She's been a mainstay on the Sutherland volleyball team and the Pittsford swimming/diving team since just seventh grade. Provided: Primetime 585 Jamie has been playing volleyball at VolleyFX since she was 5 years old and has been diving at Upstate Diving since she was 6 years old. While she admits it's been complicated to play both sports year-round, she said she's fortunate to have supportive coaches, community and family. As a dual-sport athlete, Jamie plays volleyball for Sutherland and dives for the Pittsford Swim/Diving team during the same fall season each year. Monroe County adopted dual participation in high school sports when Jamie was in seventh grade. Following their second Sectional Volleyball title, Jamie and her volleyball teammates won States for the first time in ten years this past weekend. Sutherland girls volleyball dethrones defending champs to win state title This diving season, Jamie earned her second Sectional title and placed sixth at Diving States before joining her volleyball team for the championship weekend in Glens Falls. Jamie has been recognized with All-County & AGR Awards as well as the Libero of the Year honor in volleyball. She is the 2x reigning Monroe County Diver of the Year and is a 5x State Diving Qualifier & 4x Diving All-American. All the while she manages to maintain a 4.0 GPA and honors status. She said she intends to continue diving in college as she studies medicine. Truly remarkable indeed!
