FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A driver was killed after his car rolled over multiple times outside Reedley, and his passenger was arrested after biting one of the responding officers, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP says around 6:30 a.m. two 18-year-olds were traveling westbound in a Honda Accord on Vino Avenue near Jim Savage Road, north of Reedley. CHP’s maximum enforcement period begins Wednesday Officers say the driver drifted onto the right shoulder where the sedan struck a metal irrigation pipe. The car continued in a westerly direction and overturned multiple times, striking about a dozen trees as it plowed through a tree vineyard. Investigators say neither of the occupants were wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle during the crash. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger sustained minor injuries. The driver was identified by the Fresno County Coroner's Office as 18-year-old Isael Acevedo. 18-year-old Jorge Medina While in the back of the ambulance, CHP says the passenger, 18-year-old Jorge Medina of Reedley, bit two officers as they were trying to subdue him. CHP reports Medina was arrested on suspicion of felony assault on a peace officer. The two officers were treated for their injuries.
