MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE)—After making over a thousand DUI arrests during Thanksgiving 2023, the CHP's maximum enforcement period will return in 2024.
According to the Madera-area California Highway Patrol, officers will begin the maximum enforcement period at 6:01 p.m. on Wednesday - and will continue until 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 1.
CHP says during last year's maximum enforcement period, officers made 1,047 arrests for driving under the influence and 27 fatal crashes in the CHP's jurisdiction.
Officers report five of the 17 vehicle occupants killed in a crash were not wearing a seatbelt.
CHP advises drivers to make smart decisions behind the wheel and to buckle up.
