Sheriff’s deputies to increase DUI patrols during this timeframe
Nov 27, 2024
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- "Don't drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs." That's the message relayed from San Diego County Sheriff’s Office this week.
The Thanksgiving holiday is among the busiest travel periods of the year, which is why deputies will be conducting increased impaired driving patrols from Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 1.

“Accidents caused by impaired driving are 100% preventable,” said Sheriff Kelly Martinez. "Let's keep everyone safe this holiday weekend. Don't drink and drive."
Authorities explained that impaired driving goes beyond just drinking alcohol. Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and marijuana can also impair driving ability.
The Sheriff's Office has offered up the following tips for a safe Thanksgiving:
-- Plan a safe way to get home, like a designated driver, rideshare, taxi, or public transportation.
-- Before drinking, determine what your safe ride home will be and don't keep your keys on you.
So far in 2024, Sheriff's deputies have arrested nearly 900 people for impaired driving in San Diego County. These kinds of arrests and convictions can cost more than $15,000 in legal and court fees.
