TOPEKA (KSNT) - Topeka road crews are preparing to tackle expected oncoming winter conditions in the Capital City this week. The City of Topeka's new Public Works Director Steve Groen is set to spearhead this year's winter road work efforts. Enough drivers have been hired to keep up with the expected workload this winter season to help locals get to where they need to go. "We actually train our own CDL drivers in house and are looking for ways to expand that into the community," Topeka City Manager Robert Perez said. "Our teams are ready to respond if needed. Ready to do proactive treatment if we see something." Extreme temperatures on both ends of the spectrum can lead to the creation of potholes. The City of Topeka said it is trying out new additives for its asphalt which can be laid down in temperatures as low as 40 degrees. ‘The Toy Scout’ is coming to Manhattan, Topeka Drivers are asked to be patient this winter however as city crews work to patch potholes as they appear.
