Governor's Council certifies electors
Nov 27, 2024
BOSTON (WWLP) - The Governor's Council certified Massachusetts electors Wednesday--and as expected, they confirmed that the state's 11 Democratic electors will be casting their votes in the electoral college.
These results were determined based on how many people voted for the Democratic Harris-Walz ticket, and the electors will officially cast their electoral college votes at the State House on December 17.
This week, the Secretary of the Commonwealth announced that just over 3.5 million Massachusetts voters participated in this year's presidential election, failing to top the 3.6 million voters who participated in 2020.
Of these voters, preliminary numbers show that about 61% of the popular vote went to the Harris-Walz ticket, and about 36% of the vote went to the winning Trump-Vance ticket.
The attitude in the governor's chambers was somber, as Healey geared up for another four years under a presidential administration that she sued over 100 times as Massachusetts' attorney general. "I'm proud to be able to not only live here but work together with all of you. And there's important work that we've done and important work to do in the time ahead," said Healey.
In addition to casting votes for the president and vice president, the newly certified electors will vote on the federal offices of U.S. Senator and U.S. Representative to send the candidates chosen by Massachusetts voters to Capitol Hill.
Massachusetts' election overseer told 22News that official certification for ballot questions and state-level election results will come at a later date.
