Rain and mountain snow continue tonight and wrap up in time for Thanksgiving

Rain and higher elevation snow is continuing through the day today. The winds are also staying strong through the day today.
The first of two cold front is moving through New Mexico today. This front is coming from the Pacific and will be bringing cooler air to New Mexico. The front was sent into New Mexico by an upper level jet streak over the state. The front is along the leading edge of the precipitation across New Mexico today. Snow is expected to continue for the higher elevations and rain is anticipated tonight for the metro. Due to the continues snowfall a Winter Weather Advisory for the San Juan Mountain in New Mexico is in place until 5 p.m. November 27th. A Winter Storm Warning is in place for the San Juan Mountains in southwestern CO in also in place until 5 p.m. November 27th.
The upper level jet and the pacific front is aiding in the strong wind gusts seen across eastern New Mexico today. Gusts up to 55 mph are possible. While still strong, these winds are much weaker than the 75 mph gusts seen yesterday. Regardless a Wind Advisory is in place for portions of eastern New Mexico until 4 p.m. November 27th.
The second cold will be moving through New Mexico tonight. This front will be bringing much colder air into the state. We can expect to see significant temperatures drops. Especially, in the southeast.
Thanksgiving Day will have a chilly start to the day. Due to the cold front the high temperatures will be colder than normal. The rain and snow is expected to completely clear from New Mexico by Thursday Afternoon.
