An investigation was launched on Sept. 3, 2024, when police were called around 4 p.m. to a residence in Zionsville in response to a suspected drug overdose. When authorities arrived on the scene, they located an unresponsive male. Court documents did not identify the victim, who a witness confirmed was visiting from out of state.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy report later determined that the victim's cause of death was cocaine and oxycodone toxicity.
Officers subsequently conducted a search warrant at the residence. Court documents said they recovered a phone that reportedly belonged to the deceased individual, a black vaporizer device containing a yellow liquid police suspect was associated with the consumption of THC, one plastic resaleable bag containing suspected marijuana and one yellow pill bottle with a white lid and no label.
Police spoke with one of the witnesses, who reportedly told them they and the victim had allegedly purchased around two grams of cocaine from a man based out of Indianapolis. The witness claimed the victim also allegedly purchased four 80mg orange pills.
Court documents show investigators utilized a law enforcement database to determine that the provided phone number matched a cell phone belonging to Morris. The database also returned information related to Morris' address, which detectives determined was located in the 600 block of Ingomar Street on the west side of Indianapolis.
Investigators also utilized cell phone tower data to review text messages between Morris and the witness that allegedly outlined the plan to purchase cocaine and oxycodone.
The Hamilton/Boone County Drug Task Force and detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department executed a search warrant at Morris' residence on Nov. 26 where detectives found a clear plastic bag containing 37 blue pills identified as oxycodone hydrochloride 30 mg pills (schedule 2 controlled substance) and a black 9mm Caliber firearm.
Detectives proceeded to speak with Morris, who allegedly admitted that he was aware that the blue pills bearing the "M" and "30" markings typically contain fentanyl. Morris allegedly admitted that he had supplied drugs to a witness and the victim, who was visiting from out of town back in September.
According to online court records, Morris is set to appear in Boone Circuit Court for an initial hearing on Dec. 3 at 8:30 a.m.
