Village in Wisconsin issues Boil Water Advisory after main break
Nov 27, 2024
EDGAR, Wis. (WFRV) — The Village of Edgar is advising all water customers to boil their water due to a major water main break and a subsequent loss of water pressure on Wednesday.
As crews work to repair the break, the quality of water may have been compromised, prompting the advisory.

In compliance with State and Federal Safe Drinking Water Regulations, precautionary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of drinking water. The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
Until the advisory is lifted, residents are advised to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, food preparation, and ice making. Water should be boiled at a rolling boil for at least one minute before use. Alternatively, commercially bottled water can be used for these purposes, and ice should be made from boiled or bottled water only.

Following the repair, the well and distribution system will undergo disinfection. Water samples will then be tested for total coliform bacteria, which are generally not harmful but can indicate the presence of potentially dangerous bacteria. If coliform bacteria are detected, further tests will be conducted to check for harmful bacteria such as fecal coliform or E. coli.
Residents will be notified once the boil water advisory has been lifted.
