(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) safety patrol vehicle was involved in a crash on I-25 at Rockrimmon Boulevard on Wednesday morning, Nov. 27 when it was apparently struck by a vehicle that was driving in the northbound lanes, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
CSPD Communications posted about the crash just after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and said that two northbound lanes of I-25 were closed in the area and for drivers to expect delays.
CSPD Sr. Public Communications Specialist Caitlin Ford said, on Wednesday morning there was some guard rail work being done in the area when the safety patrol vehicle was hit. Ford said only minor injuries were involved in the crash and that lane closures in the area were due to ensure tow trucks could get to the scene safely.
CDOT Communications Manager Amber Shipley sent the following statement to FOX21 News: "Colorado Department of Transportation reminds motorists when traveling, take it slow, no sudden stops and leave plenty of following distance. Follow the Move Over Law to protect first responders, maintenance vehicles, and other motorists on the side of the road."
