BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Thanksgiving is tomorrow and it also marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. The Greater Bakersfield Chamber kicked-off its Shop Local Shop Now campaign Tuesday to encourage Kern County shoppers to support Bakersfield businesses instead of big box retailers. Dogs have new home after owner dies in murder-suicide on Cresson Court The campaign not only supports Kern County's economy, but also allows residents to select products with a lower carbon footprint, minimal packaging waste and eco-friendly options. "Its so vital to support those who live in the community because they're here to make a difference, they're providing jobs to team members, they are giving back to the local economy," Drybar owner Mira Patel said. According to the Chamber, the Shop Local Shop Now campaign will transform into something called "The Chamber Perk" — a new, year-round weekly show and fully integrated campaign set to launch in 2025.
