Local College Notebook: Greg Casimir named NJAC Special Teams Player of the Year

Greg Casimir was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Year.
The Steinert grad made the most field goals (eight) in NJAC play among all conference kickers, tying a program record and recording the longest field goal in the conference this season with a 52-yarder against William Paterson.
In the same game, he kicked the NJAC’s second-longest field goal as well with a 50-yarder. Casimir also totaled 23 kickoffs for 1,178 yards to average 51.2 per kick and recorded three touchbacks.
While Casimir had eight field goals in conference play, he booted 11 overall.
Girman, Daigle Conclude Rutgers Career
Gia Girman (Nottingham) and Kylie Daigle (Pennington) had their collegiate careers c0me to a close when Rutgers fell to UConn in the NCAA Tournament.
Girman, who played in 74 games during her four-year career, scored six goals and added four assists. Her final goal was a big one as she scored in the overtime win against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tourney opener.
Daigle, who played in 82 games, tallied 12 goals and 13 assists over her four years in the midfield.
Cahnbley Achieves NJAC Honor
Tobias Cahnbley (WW-P North) was named the NJAC Swimmer of the Week from Rowan.
Competing against Salisbury, he posted the fastest NJAC time of the season in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 4:44.80, and recorded the NJAC’s third-fastest time in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.76.
His 500 free time is among the top 25 in NCAA Division III.
Weiss Gets Another NJAC Honor
Ethan Weiss (Northern Burlington) earned NJAC Diver of the Week from The College of New Jersey in a meet at NYU, Weiss won both the 1-meter diving events with scores of 357.23 (6 dives) and 548.18 (11 dives), securing his spot at regionals.
He also placed third on the 3-meter board, scoring 276.6 points.
Sorber Earns Big East Honor, Twice
Thomas Sorber, a Trenton resident who played at Archbishop Ryan in the Philadelphia Catholic League, was named the Big East Freshman of the Week for the second time this season.
He averaged 11.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocked shots in a pair of wins for Georgetown. He made 10-of-14 shots from the field.
The Hoyas beat Mount St. Mary’s 79-51 and St. Francis, Pa. 82-65.
Earlier, Sorber averaged a double-double in his first two collegiate games.
In a 2-0 week for the Hoyas, he averaged 22.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks while making 55.2 percent from the field. In a 69-57 win over Fairfield, Sorber had a game-high 25 points and nine rebounds.
Zemitis Earns Patriot Honor
Reese Zemitis (Neshaminy) earned Honorable Mention among the Patriot League Players of the Week after averaged 10 points per game in the Bucknell’s first two games against Penn State and Pittsburgh, including a team-high 12 points and 4-of-7 shooting from three-point range against Penn State.
Garofalo Earns Academic All-District Honor
Mike Garofalo (Steinert) was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Men’s Soccer team.
A Criminology major with a 3.72 GPA, Garofalo served as team captain and started all 16 games in which he played during his senior campaign.
The midfielder racked up a career-high 851 minutes of action, putting him well over 2,000 for his career. Garofalo is slated to become an NJAC All-Academic Team honoree for the third time.

Field Hockey: Talia Schenck (Lawrence) had an assist in Princeton’s 1-0 win over Boston College in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. …Avery McGinty (Neshaminy) will be with East Stroudsburg in the Division II Final Four.
Football: Jordan Scipio (Notre Dame) had 19 tackles and an interception and Joseph Okopu (Hightstown) had six tackles for NJAC champion and playoff-bound Salisbury.
Ice Hockey: Ryan Burgess (Langhorne resident) had 81 saves this past weekend in Arcadia’s two wins over Stevenson earning him the MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors. He had 81 saves in the two games.
Men’s Basketball: Jamir Spivey (Steinert) had seven rebounds and five points in Rowan’s win over Eastern. Kabrien Goss (Roman Cath/Trenton resident) has started both games as a freshman at Montclair State. …Cameron Downs (Pemberton) had 14 points in Rutgers-Camden’s win over FDU-Florham
Men’s Soccer: Ari Barreto (Hightstown) will be with Rowan in the NCAA tournament. …Liam Goldstein (Pennington) and Lukas Gessner (Pennington) will be with Babson in the NCAA’s …Chris Turnbull (Hopewell Valley) will be in the NCAA’s with Muhlenberg. …Emerson Kekesi (Northern Burlington) and Joey Bucchere (Hun) will be with Stevens in the NCAA’s …Spencer Lee (Lawrenceville) and Bill Becker (George) will be in the Hamilton lineup. …Nic Petruso (Princeton) will be in lineup with Franklin & Marshall lineup. …Aidan Keith (Pennington) will be with Connecticut College in the NCAA’s. …Colm Corcoran (Homeschool/Lawrence resident) is on Franciscan’s roster. …Luke Finkelstein (WW-P North), Jeremy Sallade (Wilberforce/Princeton resident) and Noah Kooistra (Williston Northampton/Lawrence resident) all will be in the Dickinson lineup.
Women’s Basketball: Anna Primerano (Notre Dame) connected on her first collegiate field goal attempt in William Paterson’s win over Ursinus.
