Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office has recovered a firearm that appears to have been used to shoot and kill Patrick Hayes. On Sept. 25, Hayes, 61, was found deceased with a gunshot wound near a Jordanelle State Park trailhead. The Sheriff’s Office said that Hayes seemed to have been involved in a road rage incident in which he approached another vehicle, and, with a metal baton and pocket knife in hand, “aggressively” called the other driver out of the vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.Ultimately, it appears that the driver of that second vehicle shot and killed Hayes. “At this time, we are analyzing evidence as to whether Mr. Hayes was attempting to enter the vehicle,” read a press release.“Our investigators have consulted many times with Wasatch County prosecutors throughout the investigation and have submitted evidence to the State Crime Lab for analysis,” the release read. “We anticipate this analysis, as well as electronic data analysis, to aid in determining the circumstances of the situation leading up to and resulting in the death of Mr. Hayes. We are fully investigating this matter for all possible crimes, including homicide, and considering all defenses, including self-defense.”The release included condolences to Hayes’ family and thanked them for being cooperative, kind and helpful. The post Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office recovers firearm used in Hayes shooting appeared first on Park Record.
