LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Wednesday! We are tracking a round of rain late this afternoon into the overnight hours. If you are doing any holiday travel today, you should be good to go early in the day with rain chances increasing by the late afternoon hours. Thanksgiving will be chilly and cloudy, with a few light showers possible early in the day. There is also the chance the ridges in eastern Kentucky may see a few flakes mixing in during the evening hours. Arctic air is set to arrive by Friday, with temperatures likely not getting out of the 30s until at least the middle of next week. With the cold air around, there will also be a few light snow chances around as well. Wednesday into Thanksgiving rain Rain arrives late in the day on Wednesday and will last into Thanksgiving. The heaviest of the rain will likely be overnight, so it shouldn’t cause major issues for holiday travel. There will be lingering showers through the first part of the day on Thanksgiving, particularly across southeastern Kentucky. Temperatures will be chilly on Thanksgiving as well, as most areas will stay into the low-to-mid 40s. We could end the day with a few flakes flying for the mountains of southeastern Kentucky as the cold air moves in. Cold air in place Friday into Saturday Heading Black Friday shopping? You will need the winter jacket as temperatures will only reach the mid-30s Friday afternoon after starting the day in the upper 20s. Our coldest night of the season so far is expected overnight Friday into early Saturday morning. Many areas will be waking up well into the low 20s, with a few upper teens possible as well. If you’re heading to Kroger Field to tailgate for the Governor’s Cup on Saturday, make sure you dress for the cold temperatures! Morning temperatures will be in the 20s and the wind chill will be making it feel like the upper teens at times. For the game itself, temps will struggle to get out of the mid-30s with partly cloudy skies. Snow shower chance Saturday evening An Alberta Clipper will be sweeping through the area late Saturday into early Sunday. This will bring a round of snow showers that may result in light accumulation across the region. Don’t expect heavy snow from this, but the timing of this chance is trending earlier and earlier. This could mean snow showers for your Saturday evening. Because temperatures will be in the 20s late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, slick spots will be possible on the less traveled roadways. Arctic air Sunday into early next week Behind that Alberta Clipper, arctic air will be in place Sunday afternoon and will last into early next week. Widespread morning temperatures in the teens will be likely Monday, while a few single digit lows in areas with a light snow on the ground will be possible. The wind chill Monday morning will be in the the low teens and single digits in spots. Prepare for a January or February type of shot of arctic air! The colder than normal pattern is expected to last through at-least the first week of December, possibly longer. There may be a few afternoons closer to average, but overall the pattern is expected to stay below average. Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
