INDIANAPOLIS -- An officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was recently arrested after he reportedly battered and restrained an individual.
On Tuesday evening, the Whiteland Police Department took IMPD Officer Herman Means into custody on preliminary charges of domestic battery in the presence of a child and strangulation. This comes after officers responded to Means' home following a report of domestic violence at a home in Whiteland.
A news release from IMPD states that officers with the Whiteland Police Department determined that a complainant had been battered and restrained. When officers discovered that Means was reportedly involved, detectives from IMPD's special investigations unit were contacted.

The release said that Means is a 7-year veteran of IMPD and is assigned to the department's east district. When released, Means will be placed on administrative leave pending an internal review of the incident.
"IMPD Internal Affairs will conduct an administrative investigation to assess potential departmental violations and present the findings to the Chief of Police for review," IMPD officials said.
The release said that the Johnson County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decision. Means is being held at the Johnson County Jail.
Officials with the Whiteland Police Department said in the release that the investigation is ongoing.
