BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- One person was killed and a passenger was injured after they were trapped in a vehicle that went off the side of Highway 178 in Mountain Mesa on Tuesday morning. The crash was reported at around 11:20 a.m. along Highway 178 west of Mobile Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, the Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling at an unsafe speed and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and went down a 30-foot embankment. Officials said the wet roads contributed to the crash. The male driver of the pick-up was transported to Kern Valley Hospital where he was later died. The female passenger of the truck was transported to Kern Medical with minor injuries, CHP said through a news release. Highway 178 was closed for an hour during the investigation. CHP officers said alcohol and or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
