LUDLOW, Mass. (WWLP) - It's getaway day for many people who are driving to their holiday destinations.
Thanksgiving snow storm forecast in Massachusetts
According to AAA, the sooner you get out, the better. They say the best travel time is before 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
Wednesday morning, there might be some fog on the roads, so make sure to slow down, and leave extra distance between other cars. Keep an eye on roadside markers if your vision is obstructed, and use your low beams to avoid glare.
Check your tires to make sure they're properly inflated and check your wipers to ensure they can clear your windshield well.
Gently brake before turning, and if you feel your car starting to hydroplane, take your foot off the accelerator, steer in the direction you're headed, and don't hit the brakes.
The worst time to drive on Wednesday will be between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., and minimal traffic is expected on Thanksgiving day. AAA expects nearly 80 million Americans to travel over the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, which is up 1.7 million people from last year.
Especially in iffy weather, make sure to plan ahead so you can enjoy a safe start to the holiday season.
