In October, Barry University appointed Eneida Roldan the executive dean of its College of Health and Wellness, effective Jan. 6, 2025. She will oversee Barry’s largest academic unit, focusing on preparing healthcare professionals and spearheading innovative education initiatives to develop the next generation of leaders. Dr. Roldan has a distinguished career as a physician, academician and administrator. She was the first female and Hispanic CEO of Jackson Health System and previously was president of Pan American Hospital. Dr. Roldan was also a founding faculty member at FIU’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, where she played a key role in developing foundational curricula like the Professionalism Strand and Health Systems Science. An advocate for healthcare excellence and education, Dr. Roldan brings experience in leadership, research and mentorship. Coinciding with her tenure at FIU, she served as principal investigator in numerous clinical studies focused on innovative medical treatments for obesity and infectious diseases.  She has authored scientific papers and contributed chapters to medical textbooks, receiving national, state, and local accolades in medicine, business and academics.  Notably, her latest chapter, “Cuban American Women Making History,” published in November 2023, chronicles her journey as a female healthcare leader. Her educational path spans degrees from University of Miami, Ross University, University of South Florida and University of Tennessee, complemented by executive training at Harvard, Wharton and Thunderbird. In her new role, Dr. Roldan will lead Barry’s College of Health and Wellness, which comprises the School of Nursing, Health Promotion and Clinical Practice, Health Sciences, Social Work, and Counseling and School Psychology. With a total enrollment of 6,825 and just over 2,400 students enrolled in the College of Health and Wellness, it stands as Barry’s largest academic department.  Founded in 1940 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters, Barry is a Catholic university rooted in a tradition of faith and service. Dr. Roldan brings these values to her leadership, where her guiding principles emphasize spirituality, integrity, and the development of the next generation of compassionate healthcare professionals. Under her leadership, the College of Health and Wellness continues its commitment to addressing critical societal needs and preparing graduates to be socially conscious leaders in their fields and communities.
