Northeast Ohio 2024 holiday celebrations planned

If you’re hoping to attend a community event that focuses on Christmas, you’ve got plenty of options to choose from over the next few weeks in the region.
Here’s a summary of some of the celebrations celebrations slated during the yuletide season through the area, starting with Lake County:

Fairport Harbor
Event: Harbor Holidays and a Day with the Grinch
Date: Dec. 7
Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Location: Festivities take place at many sites in Fairport Harbor Village.
Description: The community celebration includes shopping, dining, craft shows, raffles, auctions and fun for children. Trolley rides will be available for visitors.
The Grinch, Max the Dog and Cindy Lou Who start the day at 11 a.m. with a book signing at the Fairport Harbor Public Library, 335 Vine St. The Grinch and his fellow characters then will embark on a journey in and around Who Village, “stealing” Toys for Tots from Fairport Harbor merchants.
At 5:45 p.m., the Grinch will climb to the top of the Fairport Harbor Lighthouse, based at Second and High streets, and read “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” by Dr. Seuss.
At 6 p.m., there will be a Christmas tree lighting in Memorial Park, which is located on Third Street between Plum and Eagle streets. After the tree is illuminated, Santa Claus and the Grinch will be available for photos in the park’s gazebo.

Madison Village
Event: Christmas in the Village Park
Date: Dec. 7
Hours: 2 to 7:30 p.m. or later — depending on when Santa is finished visiting with children.
Location: In and around Madison Village Park, West Main and River streets
Description: The event will include free hot chocolate, cookies and s’mores; Christmas caroling at 6:15 p.m. by the Madison High School Eclectica show choir; holiday music played DJ Jeremy James throughout the event; and a chili cookoff inside Duffy’s Tavern from 4 to 7 p.m.
A new outdoor holiday market, featuring handmade items, will be set up throughout the park from 2 to 7:30.
Free horse-drawn carriage rides, led by Whispering Pines horses, will be offered from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 7:30.
The event’s annual Christmas parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. After the procession, Santa will visit individually with all children who want to talk with him.

Mentor
Event: Community Tree Lighting
Date: Dec. 3
Hours: 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Location: Mentor Municipal Center, 8500 Civic Center Blvd.
Description: In addition to the tree lighting, Santa will arrive in his horse-drawn carriage and be available for photos while local choirs sing holiday favorites. Light refreshments also will be available.
Painesville
Event: Holiday Vespers Concert
Date: Dec. 7
Hours: 4:30 p.m.
Location: Helen Rockwell Morley Music Building on the Lake Erie College Campus, 391 W. Washington St., Painesville
Description: The concert will be followed by a reception in the Louise Price Social Parlor.

Perry Village
Event: Santa in the Lee Lydic Park
Date: Dec. 1
Hours: 5 to 7 p.m.
Location: Lee Lydic Park, 3954 Call Road, Perry Village
Description: A fire truck will transport Santa into the park, where he will visit with children, and parents will have the opportunity to take pictures of their kids as they talk with Santa. Christmas music will be played, and everyone who attends the event also will be invited to enjoy cookies and hot cocoa.

Willoughby
Event: Holiday Lighting Celebration
Date: Dec. 5
Hours: 7 p.m.
Location: Downtown Willoughby
Description: Musical entertainment from local school groups will precede the holiday lighting ceremony.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will appear on stage after the lighting to greet children. A line will form in front of the Chamber of Commerce building.

Willoughby Hills
Event: Willoughby Hills Winter Fest
Date: Dec. 8
Hours: 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Location: Willoughby Hills Fire Station, 35455 Chardon Road.
Description: An evening of fun and celebration will include an appearance by Santa Claus, a performance by the South HIgh School Band and crafts for children. Light refreshments will be served.
People who attend also are invited to bring unwrapped Christmas toys to donate for children in need.
Here are some community Christmas events that are planned in eastern Cuyahoga County:
Euclid
Event: Euclid Holiday Lighting
Date: Dec. 6
Hours: 6 to 8:30 p.m.
Location: Outside of Shore Cultural Centre, 291 E. 222nd St.
Description: Euclid’s biggest event of the year will kick off the holiday season. A visit from Santa with the help of the Euclid Fire Department is expected. Vendors will be open and different treats will be available for purchase.
Mayfield Heights
Event: Holiday Lighting Ceremony
Date: Dec. 1
Hours: 6 to 8 p.m.
Location: City Hall Fire Bays, 6154 Mayfield Road
Description: “The annual lighting of City Hall is an anticipated and favored event that ushers in the holidays of lights! The lighting ceremony is a wonderful place to meet new friends, enjoy a cup of hot cocoa, grab a sweet, and take pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Don’t miss Santa and Mayor DiCicco as they count-down to lighting up City Hall,” according to Tammy Clines, Mayfield Heights communications coordinator.
Mayfield Village
Date: Dec. 6
Hours: 6-7 p.m.
Location: Mayfield Village gazebo, 6635 Wilson Mills Road
Description: Mayfield Village will be holding its annual tree lighting, rain or snow, right outside of the Mayfield Village gazebo.
In Geauga County some of the community Christmas events include:
Chardon
Event: Christmas Lighting of the Square
Date: Nov. 30
Hours: 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Location: Chardon Square, 101 South Hambden St.
Description: Along with the lighting of the square, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit the event, and the Chardon High School Free Harmony show choir is slated to perform.
In addition, the Chardon Area Chamber of Commerce will be handing out apple cider and cookies donated by Sage’s Apples and Chardon Healthcare Center.
Middlefield
Event: Merry Middlefield
Date: Dec. 14
Hours: Activities to be held throughout the day.
Location: Activities will take place in various locations throughout the Middlefield area.
Description: The Grinch is planning a visit, and he’ll be making his way throughout the Middlefield area, attempting to “steal” gift cards and toys that will be donated to local charities.
Cardinal Junior and Senior High School, located at 14785 N. Thompson Avenue in Middlefield Village, will host several activities in conjunction with Merry Middlefield. Those events include the East Geauga Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Merry Middlefield Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Later in the day, Santa Claus will make an appearance between 2 and 6 p.m. at Great Lakes Outdoor Supply, 14855 N. State Ave. in Middlefield Village.
Great Lakes Outdoors Supply also will host a fireworks display that is slated to start at 7 p.m.
