Maryland Attorney General's Office delays release of body cam footage in policeinvolved death in Hagerstown
Nov 26, 2024
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- The Maryland Office of the Attorney General announced on Tuesday that it is delaying the release of body-worn camera footage of a police-involved death that happened in Hagerstown last month.
The footage stems from an investigation into the death of a man on Saturday, Oct. 26. The man died in police custody during an officer-executed search warrant on a home in the 100 block of E. Washington St.

The office's Independent Investigation Division (IID) decided to delay the footage's release due to "additional time needed to conduct witness interviews."
IID protocols say that the division will generally release body-worn or dashboard camera footage within 20 business days after an incident; however, factors such as more time needed to conduct witness interviews, technical delays caused by the need to redact information that "raises privacy or safety concerns" or the need to allow the family to view the video before its public release can impact when it is released.
