FORECAST:Early morning sun, with Clouds winning out Wednesday
Nov 26, 2024
It will calm down this evening under a clear sky, which will cause temperatures to tumble. After hitting the 60s early in the afternoon, we'll see overnight lows in the 30s tonight.
The day before Thanksgiving will be a quiet and comfortable one as high pressure passes overhead. It will be a little cooler, with highs only in the 50s, but this cooler air will result from clouds quickly rolling back in and capping our warmup Wednesday afternoon. These clouds will be the leading edge of the next storm system that is set to arrive here on Thanksgiving. Steady rain will spread across the DMV late Wednesday night and continue through Thanksgiving morning. This will be an annoyance for anyone traveling, but the rain will be more helpful than impactful, given how dry it's been. It will already be drying out by the time we settle in for those Thanksgiving dinners in the afternoon, with clearing conditions taking shape.
Next up will be the most impactful part of the extended forecast, which will last through the rest of the holiday weekend and into the first several days of December. A surge of arctic air will drop south behind this latest storm system, arriving with blustery northwest winds on Black Friday. Air temperatures will only reach the 30s and 40s during the afternoon, with even colder wind chills in the 20s. This is only the beginning, as additional surges of northwest wind flow will push temperatures down even more from Saturday through next Monday. Highs over these 3 days will only be in the upper 30s for most, with overnight lows into the 20s. Across the mountains, it will be even colder, with highs in the 20s and lows in the teens. Most of us will stay dry, but bursts of mountain snow can't be ruled out to the west.
