ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — During the season of giving, Wegmans is also pitching in to give back to the community.
It's part of the "Check Out Hunger" campaign, which is raising money for local food-insecure families.
We're told all 21 of the Rochester-area Wegmans locations are collecting donations to benefit Foodlink, a local food bank. At the register, shoppers can donate as much or as little as they'd like. Officials said that over $15 million have been raised by this campaign.
Tuesday, in the final days of the campaign, Foodlink staff bagged groceries alongside cashiers, lending a helping hand.

"Every day we are about our mission, which is to end hunger in our community. So, to come out today and see community members face to face and encourage them to be a part of this mission is really important and meaningful for our staff," said Julia Tedesco, president and CEO of Foodlink. "We're giving tens of thousands of boxes of produce and dairy and proteins out to communities across our region, and we know that everyone is struggling with a tight food budget this season. So, if you can round up, donate a couple dollars on top of your own holiday meal, it makes a real difference."
"Check Out Hunger" runs through this Saturday.
