FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The man who was killed in a crash that sent two teenagers to the hospital last week in Fresno County has been identified. The Fresno County Coroner's Office identified the man as 44-year-old Pedro Garcia Velarde of Kerman. The California Highway Patrol responded to the area of Highway 180 and Grantland Avenue in Fresno County for a fatal traffic collision just before 6:20 p.m. on Nov. 22. 1 dead, teens hospitalized, 1 arrested, after crash in Fresno County CHP says Velarde was driving a Kia Optima eastbound on Highway 180 with two 14-year-old passengers. At the same time, the driver of a pickup truck, identified as 56-year-old Santiago Lopez Lucas of Fresno, was traveling westbound on Highway 180. Officers say for unknown reasons, Lopez crossed over the center line and collided with the Kia. CHP says Velarde was pronounced deceased on the scene prior to their arrival. The two 14-year-old teenagers inside the vehicle were sent to the hospital with minor injuries. Santiago Lopez Lucas. Officers add Lucas suffered minor injuries and was arrested under suspicion of DUI, DUI causing death and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The sheriff office confirmed Lucas has since posted bond and was released from jail on Sunday. His bail was set at $97,000.
