FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A new medicine garden "to support the cultural, spiritual, and mental well-being of Native American Veterans" was blessed by local Native American elders on Tuesday. The VA says the garden at the VA Central California Health Care System will provide a safe and accessible sanctuary for Native American Veterans to connect with their heritage and will feature traditional plants such as lemongrass, rosemary, lavender, sweetgrass, and cedar that can be picked for healing rituals. "This garden will represent more than just a serene space — it will be a living tribute to Native American healing practices and a symbol of our commitment to holistic care for Veterans," the VA said. The project was made possible by a donation from the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians designated for VA Mental Health Services.
