MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - 13 pounds of marijuana was seized during a traffic stop in Merced County, the California Highway Patrol announced on Tuesday. CHP says a vehicle was stopped by officers for following too closely and speeding. Officers report several factors led them to believe the occupants were engaged in criminal activity. CHP says they received consent to search the vehicle and ultimately found 13 pounds of marijuana inside. Officers say that while those over 21 can legally possess small, personal amounts of marijuana, transporting large quantities without proper authorization is illegal. No details on arrests or the location of occurrence have been released.
