SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A nationwide E. coli outbreak from organic carrots has impacted the San Diego area. One local person became sick from the same strain of Shiga Toxin producing E. coli, according to the County of San Diego. One person has died from the outbreak, while 39 cases, 15 of those resulting in hospitalizations, have been reported in 18 states. The county says while the carrots are likely no longer sold in stores, they may be in your home. Throw away any affected carrots and be sure to thoroughly clean down surfaces that touched the vegetables.
